Christoph Sauser Wins in Cederberg, South Africa aboard his Stumpjumper
The Cederberg region is about a 3hrs drive north of Cape Town in the middle of nowhere! Or at least this feels for a Swiss. It was the perfect holiday racing! The race smooth organized by the Cape-Epic management, and they made our camping very enjoyable. I did not make use of the few cottages at the race side and instead I was sleeping in a tent. We had a good crack together since the racing was already over before noon and there was lots of time to hang out!
Again like at the X-Terra team race in Tahoe I was on my Stumpjumper. Some of the terrain was super rocky and I was more than glad to have 12cm of travel front and rear. I did not have any mechanical or flats, which was really surprising when I heard of all the problems of the other riders. By the way I was my own mechanic, but more or less I only had to wash my bike and oil my chain.
I won day 1 plus day 3, aswell as the overall with a total time of almost 8hrs.
SONGO.INFO
As some readers already know this is the charity I started together with friends with a goal in 2008 of building a bmx track and providing bikes to the kids of the township of Stellenbosch, called Kayamandi.
I was really excited to go playing around with the kids on the track, plus a ride with them on the mountain bikes afterwards. It made me very proud to see what we have achieved, but much more in that the whole project is running well and the kids are having fun.
We are very pro active again for next year. We had lots of meetings during my stay and I will keep you posted on what our songo.info future plan will be!
