October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

posted by at 11:33 PM on September 30, 2008

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Specialized Designs for Women is joining in to help raise awareness and funds for Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.  As women in a sports-related industry, we feel compelled to promote health and wellness among women and take part in initiatives that make healthy choices both obvious and accessible.

With one in eight women developing breast cancer in their lifetime and as the most common type of cancer among women excluding melanoma the reach of this disease is broad and almost everyone has been or will be touched by it.  Because of this we have joined forces with Susan G. Komen for the Cure® to help in the search for the cures. Visit www.komen.org for more information. To make a donation today visit www.specialized.com/komendonation

As a representative of the Pink Lovers Brigade, I approve! Gosh, seems like a girl always needs new pink gloves...

As a breast cancer survivor and one who works daily with breast cancer survivors I want to say sincere thanks to all of you who are out there working to raise money for Susan G. Komen and more research. I am always humbled to read about efforts like this. We have come so far but still women are dying of breast cancer, young women also. We have to keep working to find a cure. Thank you.

Ladies make sure you take care of your 'girls'. Do your BSE & get your mammograms. If you do find a lump don't panic! Have it checked out and if a doctor tells you 'it's probably nothing' find another doctor! There is no such thing as being too young for breast cancer. I had no lump only a change in my mammogram. So be your own advocate and take care of your girls, you don't want to be blind sided by cancer!
